AFC East St. Louis Saints - VII Hills Ceasars News & Notes

The team is led by Jim Brown. The first pick of the first league draft and it's hard to dispute the value of the player. Brown is not just a Hall of Famer but he is what most people consider the greatest running back in the history of the NFL. The GOAT before we coined that term, the incomparable Jim Brown.

However Brown is only one cog in a high powered St.Louis offense. Bobby Layne is slinging the ball and he's got great targets in Buddy Dial and Kyle Rote. Both the offense and defense is anchored by Chuck Bednarik. "Concrete Chuck" never leaves the field playing Center on offense and MLB on defense. Bednarik isn't the only stalwart on defense. Gene "Big Daddy" Lipscomb plugs the middle of the defense and the edge is filled by big Doug Atkins.

Both sides of the ball are potent for the Saints and the team poses many problems for opponents throughout the 1960 schedule.
VII Hills chose to go a different route in the draft. The Ceasars focosued on the future by grabbing Len Dawson in the first round.

The team from the Hills might struggle this season but they have a great group of players with long and bright futures ahead. You can't do much better than having an offensive lineman protecting Dawson and opening holes for running backs than Gene Hickerson.

Speaking of the running backs they have a good young one in Clem Daniels. The receiving corps is also rich with Carroll Dale and Boyd Dowler pressuring the defenses. Add to that Gino Cappelletti, yet another great receiver who doubles as a place kicker. The offense will be very good for quite awhile. On defense you have Jack Pardee at linebacker. Get used to him because he's going to be there for more than a decade! Paul WIggin will be guarding the edge on defense and combined with Pardee the makings are there for a good "D".
