NFC West Baja Red Ass Baboons - Lakewood VooDoo News & Notes

With their first pick at number 15 Baja had to be patient to see how the draft was playing out. When the Baboons turn came they made their selection the first secondary player of the league, the talented Willie Wood.

Wood is a great ball hawk, a solid tackler and also a dangerous punt return man. You like versatility in a start-up draft so Wood fills the bill. Obviously one player doesn't make a draft so what was the Baboons plan from here? Why not more versatility. The next piece was Johnny Robinson.

For now Robinson is a dangerous running back/receiver/return man. Later he will become an elite Safety with multiple Pro-Bowl and All-Pro selections. There's still more talent in Baja's defense. Linebacker Wayne Walker who will also be a kicker. Defensive End Lou Michaels is a place kicker. Safety Bernie Parrish and his 2 Pro-Bowls. Then the offense has great weapons in Timmy Brown who is another slash HB/KR/PR and Bobby Joe Conrad who is even more versatile HB/WR/KR/PR/PK. The job will be much easier for Zeke Bratkowski and Rudy Bukich with all the other surrounding them in Baja.
The Lakewood VooDoo makes no pretense, they are here to win starting now. The team is stocked with veteran talent, with a defense headed by greats like Night Train Lane, Jim Katcavage and Joe Fortunato

Along with Fortunato the opposite side linebacker is Matt Hazeltine. Together they make the opposing teams look elsewhere to attack. Katcavage and Ron Nery bring pressure from the ends and Lane shuts down the passing game. Together this defense has very few places they can exploit.
On offense Quarterback Billy Wade has reliable veterans surrounding him. R.C. Owens is a big play receiving threat and the running game is in the capable hands of Rick Casares and John David Crow.

The VooDoo has a strong Tight End tandem in Tom Rychlec and Monty Stickles. If Wade should struggle at QB he has a capable backup in Jacky Lee. With a strong defense and offense nothing will come easy if you're playing Lakewood.
