AFC East Missouri Arrows - South Beach Hurricanes News & Notes

The Missouri Arrows grabbed Milt Plum with their first draft pick. Milt led the NFL in Passer Rating in 1960.

Milt has some great receiving talent on his roster with Gail Cogdill and Jim "Red" Phillips, both of whom have 3 Pro-Bowl appearances ahead of them. If that's not enough to worry about, then you have to try and solve the Missouri defense. On that side of the ball you have Tom Addison with his 4 Pro-Bowl appearances and the legendary Gino Marchetti.

Gino was pretty much the standard by which Defensive Ends were measured in this era. He was a recurring nightmare for opposing Tackles and Quarterbacks. Missouri will be a very tough challenge for their SRFL opponents. Don Shinnick can't be overlooked at linebacker as he and Tom Addison are both highly disruptive. Duane Wood and Abe Woodson in the secondary just add to the misery of opposing offenses. Missouri is a tough challenge for everyone.
South Beach Hurricanes were not going to miss out on grabbing a Quarterback early as they selected Yelberton Abraham Tittle, known familiarly as Y.A. Tittle.

Even at the age of 34 Tittle still has some very good seasons ahead of him. Three Pro-Bowls, two First Team All-Pro selections and the league leading Passer Rating in 1963.
With an older Quarterback you want solid protection in front of him. Check that box off for the Hurricanes as they feature Center Jim Ringo, Tackle Rosey Brown and the bookend at the other Tackle spot Jim Parker.

Parker is talented wherever he plays whether it's at Guard or Tackle. Six Pro-Bowls and six 1st Team All-Pro picks reflect the respect of his peers. The favorite receiving target will be Max McGee. McGee is a game breaker, usallky found among the leaders in reception yardage. The team didn't skimp on Defense either. Stalwart defenders George Tarasovic, Bob Gain & Archie Matsos lead form a solid group of defenders for the Hurricanes.
