N.F.C. EAST 1st - Cleveland Rams

The Division that would appear to be the most "up for grabs" is the NFC East, currently led by the Cleveland Rams. The Rams are undeniably led by the 1-2 punch of running backs Paul Lowe and Dan Lewis. While Lowe is a given as a game breaking threat, Lewis has proven to be just as dangerous. In fact Lewis is leading the team with a 5.9 rushing average per carry, has a Rams leading 5 TD rushes and a long run of 72 yards. It's impressive how Cleveland has managed the first half of the season. For 1960 the Rams don't have a singular dominant man under center, instead having to rely on a 3-headed trinity at QB in Frank Ryan, Dick Jamieson and Lamar McHan. With that uncertainty in the quarterback room it's understandable that the team relies heavily on Lowe and Dan Lewis.

To win games Cleveland more often relies on controlling the clock with their running game, then a very solid defense digs in when the other team gets the ball. The Rams have a strong linebacking core of John Tracey, Dennit Morris and the underrated Rommie Loudd. Each man contributes solid play versus the run, pass and in rushing the passer. The Defensive End tandem is probably the strong point of the "D" and they will be for a long time. Soon when you think of the Cleveland defense automatically the names that will come to mind are Ordell Braase and Willie Davis.
Braase leads the team in sacks with four. Then if you go over the top of the front seven you have to contend with Tony Banfield and Dick Nolan. Each man has 3 interceptions and Nolan has returned one into a pick 6. Veteran Place Kicker Pat Summerall has done his part. Summerall has been perfect in extra point attempts and has converted field goals at a 75% clip. The Rams have won 3 one-score games and when the points count it's a big boost when your kicker comes through for you. It's not an eascy road ahead for Cleveland. Still on their schedule is Michicagn, who downed the Rams earlier, then two big challenges in Riverbottom and Missouri. Cleveland Rams Schedule Report
